Best Management Practices and
Low Impact Development Design

Best Management Practices (BMPs) are techniques used to control urban and stormwater runoff, sediment control, and soil stabilization, to prevent or reduce non-point source pollution.  The U.S. EPA defines a BMP as a "technique, measure or structural control that is used for a given set of conditions to manage the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater runoff in the most cost-effective manner."

CWE's experienced staff has a wealth of experience developing technical manuals for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of stormwater BMPs.  CWE utilizes its experience to design cost-effective and site-specific BMPs and LID strategies by determining pollutants of concern for a particular project, performing stormwater quality flow and volume design calculations, evaluating site constraints, considering source control BMPs, and designing appropriate treatment control BMPs to meet water quality standards.  CWE offers the following BMP services:

  • Design of Project Specific BMPs and LID Solutions

  • BMP Effectiveness Assessments

  • Preparation of Technical BMP Manuals

  • Development of BMP O&M Protocols
